ECE Undergraduate Team Wins 2nd Annual MakeBU Hackathon

ECE undergraduates Jake Messner, Max Connor, Kurt Jaisle, and Zachary Marcus won Boston University's 2nd annual MakeBU Hackathon on March 28 & 29. Their hack, dubbed Piano Lights, aims to change the way people learn to play piano. The students coded software, wired LEDs, used Solidworks to design and then print 3D components, and more to create their final prototype.

The project won first place overall, as well as the first place sponsor prize, "Hackiest Hack," presented by Downtyme. The students anticipate a final product could be mass-produced for under $35 per unit – a fraction of the cost of competing devices for teaching piano.

ECE congratulates Jake, Max, Kurt, and Zachary on their clever and impressive win!
