About

I am an Assistant Research Professor with joint appointment between the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) and the Experiential Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAI) both at Northeastern University (NU).  Before joining NU, I attended top Brazilian Federal Universities where I completed my B.Sc. and M.Sc., Ph.D., and a postdoc in Electrical Engineering. I joined NU in 2019 as Postdoctoral researcher, becoming an Associate Research Scientist in 2021 and Research Assistant Professor in July 2023.

Honors & Awards

  • Faculty Research Team Award, 23rd Annual Faculty and Staff Awards, COE, NU, Apr. 2021.
  • Best Technical Paper PETRA Award 2020.
  • Recipient of the Brazilian Ministry of Education Postdoctoral Scholarship, 2017.
  • Recipient of the Brazilian Ministry of Education Ph.D. Scholarship, 2012.
  • Recipient of the Brazilian Ministry of Education M.Sc. Scholarship, 2006.

Research Overview

My research interests concern statistical signal processing and machine learning with focus on hybrid physics-data-driven models, nonlinear dynamical systems modeling, Bayesian filtering, estimation theory and time-series analysis. Current projects include physiological data analysis for predicting the onset of aggressive behavior in youth with autism spectrum disorder (Aggression in ASD), development of hybrid physiological-data-driven dynamic models for modeling the urinary system (BLADDER), detection of retinopathy of prematurity (ASSIT), motor cortex mapping, interference source localization and tracking in navigation systems (RESILIENT), online learning of artificial intelligence enhanced dynamical physical models applied for navigation systems, remote sensing, hyperspectral unmixing, and sensitive resource monitoring. In these projects we analyze different types of data including physiological time-series, multispectral and hyperspectral images, and radar data, among others.

New collaborations: I have interest in multidisciplinary areas in healthcare and environmental sciences and I look forward to collaborating with area experts and expand research topics to further patient populations and applications.
