Excellence in Research and Creative Activity Award
Congratulations to ECE professor Jennifer Dy for receiving the Excellence in Research and Creative Activity Award by the Office of the Provost. This award is presented to a full-time faculty member to honor outstanding research and creative activity of national and international significance. The president and the provost determine the recipients on the basis of a faculty committee report on nominations received.
Professor Dy is an internationally respected expert in applied machine learning and data mining—two fields that are increasingly important in this era of Big Data. She has made significant contributions to fundamental research, but her work also has ever-expanding applications in health, science, and engineering. Since joining Northeastern in 2002, Professor Dy has been the PI or co-PI on grants totaling more than $6 million, including the prestigious National Science Foundation CAREER award. She also established the Machine Learning and Data Mining Laboratory at Northeastern and helped develop the university’s master’s degree in data science.
