Research Interests

Information Fusion is the process of combining information from various sources (sensors, data bases, knowledge bases, text documents, images, annotated documents) into one coherent representation that can be used to answer specific queries about the domain that the information describes.

Research focus: Higher-level information fusion. Situational awareness. Ontology based fusion. Process refinement. Resource and sensor management. Formal theory of multi-source information fusion. Category theory based fusion.

Self-Controlling Software is software that changes its own structure at the run time.

Research focus: Specification and design of self-controlling software using the control theory metaphor. Formal methods in Software Engineering (formalization of the UML language, consistency checking).

UML

UML is the Unified Modeling Language of software engineering. It is used primarily for modeling software systems in the development stage.

Research focus: Formalization of the UML language, consitency checking of UML models vs. UML Metamodel and of UML Metamodel vs. MOF (the Meta-Object Facility).

Semantic Web

OWL is a markup language for the Semantic Web. Agents will be able to "understand" OWL annotated documents and thus will be able to make use of such documents without human assistance.

Research focus: Ontology representation languages, ontology development, annotation of information, logical reasoning about OWL annotated documents, consistency checking.

Cognitive Radio (CR) is a mechanism for software defined communication nodes to understand and to modify the processing of communication packets as a result of the understaning. CRs can negotiate communication protocols and optimize communication.
