ECE G244 MTM G260, Homework #3, Due October 6, 2004.

1. Find electrical circuit equivalents for the mechanical systems shown. Illustration.

2. For 1 b., write down the motion of the mass if the force is given by F(t)=Asin(wt), and the mass is initially motionles. Use simple freshman physics mechanics, simple (paper and pencil) circuit analysis, and Spice, and show that the results are the same in all cases. Note that the circuit analysis and the analysis of the mechanical system are both trivial in this case! For Spice you will have to assume specific values for m, k, b, w, and A.

3. Problem 5.2, Senturia.

4. Problem 5.5, Senturia.

5. Use Spice to analyze the circuit obtained in problem 5.2. Determine the frequency response of the velocities of m1 and m2 to a force input. (Assume a sinuosoidal input force, and make sure you examine a reasonable frequency range to see the resonant frequencies in the circuit.) Assume that m2 is a block of silicon 10 x 10 x 0.5 microns in size, m1 is a block of silicon 30 x 30 x 0.5 microns in size, k1 and k2 both have spring constants of 100 microNewtons/micron, and assume that b has a value of 3 e-9 N s/m.
