This is the website for Hyperspectral Imaging in China, a program of the Dialogues of Civilization Program at Northeastern University. Our goals for this summer are (1) to study hyperspectral imaging along with students and faculty in China for 4SH of credit as a Technical Elective, (2) to study Chinese Culture for 4SH of credit as a humanities elective (A Humanities Level 1 Core Coure), and (3) to have the experience of living for five weeks in Beijing and interacting with engineers and others in that city.

The program is open to students in engineering and science who have completed a course in physics and courses in math to include linear algegra. Some experience with Matlab (at the level of GE1111 or equivalent) would be helpful.

A typical class day will consist of 2.5 hours of Hyperspectral Imaging, a lunch break, and 2.5 hours of Chinese Culture. In Hyperspetral Imaging, students will work in groups on homework assignments and projects with local students.

The cost is 8SH of tuition (which you would pay if you took classes on campus) and a $3500 fee. (which you would probably pay in rent for a summer semester in Boston). The fee covers airfare, lodging, and several excursions including a Weekend field trip to "wild" Great Wall at Jinshanling and Simitai.

Announcements (Updated 22 December 2015)

(22 Dec 2015) CLTR4944 is approved as a humanities level-1 core course. For engineering students EECE3154 counts as a technical elective.

Please invite classmates and friends to join the program. Students from other universities may apply as well, and transfer the credits to their home institutions. Here is a program brochure.

(8 Dec 2015) I am working to get CLTR4944 approved as a humanities core course. I will announce the outcome here as soon as I know. Also, there will be another Dialogues fair on 14 January from 11 to 2 in the Curry Student Center Indoor Quad. Following that, there will be another Info Session on this program. We have not yet set a date for that.

One of the students from last year's program will be at the info session tonight to answer questions from a student's perspective. The location is different this year, but the Hyperspectral Imaging course is the same. The meeting is in 352 Egan at 6:00PM.

There will be another information session in 352 Egan at 6:00PM on Thursday, 19 November. Please send this along to anyone you know who might be interested.

There will be an information session in 352 Egan at 6:00PM on Monday, 25 October and at 7:00PM in the same location (We have told people different times so we will do the info session twice).

ABOUT THE BACKGROUND: My favorite winter passtime is skiing. I put this background together from a detail of a photograph taken at Park City, in 2003. There are four copies in different orientations so that the tracks (and more importantly, the brightness levels) line up as the pattern repeats.
