  1. HW 5 posted below. It is due Friday April 9.
  2. There will be one more (short) homework related to today's lecture material, to be assigned very soon and due in about a week.
  3. The (too few) folks who actually came to class today (Wed Mar 31) agreed that a reasonable time for our final presentations would be Thursday April 22, 1 to 3 PM. If there is anyone who can make our original time (Wed Apr. 21 at 8 AM) and objects to this time we'll have to look for another time or stay with the assigned one. So please let Chuck and me know NOW if Thurs. Apr. 22 1-3 is NOT good for you.
  4. Check this link to the book by Kak and Slaley, which is the classic text on standard tomography (check Chap. 3 in particular for more detail related to today's lecture) and is available on-line.
  5. Lecture 15 now posted.

  • Prof. Brooks' matlab demo of using overdetermined least squares, as compared to choosing just 2 wavelengths, for the spectral unmixing problem of the lab in HW 2 is here.
  • Prof. DiMarzio's convolution demonstration m-file as shown in lecture on Strong Scattering is here.

  • m-file to play with swapping magnitude and phase of Fourier Transform of images, as used in class by Prof. Brooks is here. Note that it has been modified from the one used in class and lecture notes to force all colormaps to be gray. If you're interested, try modifying the file to use it on other images. You can even try to swap magnitude and phase between images and check the results. One list of places to find images is here.

  • Homework 5. There is one problem for this homework, and the writeup is available here in pdf format.
  • Updated info for Homework 4. There are additional instructions for completing the second and third parts of Homework 4 here in pdf format. In addition, you may find the following useful:
    1. the link to the software and documentation you should use to do the Born model is here in gzipped tar format and here in PC zipfile format.
    2. a sample dataset as described in the additional instructions is here as a Matlab .mat file. Please keep in mind that we are making this data available only so you can checkpoint your own work; you are to use your own dataset in actually doing the homework you hand in.
    3. You can see an image of the singular values of one particular Born matrix at one wavelength here (it's a jpeg file).
    4. A m-file Prof. Brooks wrote to display constant depth slices of a volume, as shown in the example in the additional instructions, is here.
  • Homework 4. There is one problem for this homework, and the writeup is available here in pdf format. Note that we will discuss it in class on Wed. Mar. 10, so please read it before then. Also note it involves a lab session to take data using the hyperspectral camera. We will be following up with a posting about the software to use in this assignment, and there are likely to be some changes and revisions as we work through doing the assignment with all of you.

  • Homework 3 This assignment is available here in pdf format. You will need the file 10472-3a.zip , for this assigment. If you used the old version, without the letter a after the 3, you may have some small trouble. Due date is by the start of class on Wed. Feb. 25. We will have a discussion on these problems in class on Mon. Feb. 23. It will be led by students we choose from the class, so come prepared to talk about what you do and don't understand about the problem assigment!

  • Link to some linear algebra on-line is here. Note that this was just the 2nd item on a google search for "kernel linear algebra", there's lots of other good stuff out there.

  • Student Survey: available here. All students are asked to fill out and return ASAP, either by email or hardcopy.
