(9 August 103) Hakka Festival Trip
Saturday we took a bus trip to a temple, the Hakka festival, a private
home and a tea museum/factory. Our local guide provided a wealth of
information about Hakka culture, the area, and Taiwan. Here is a

trip.

The festival.
Pigs play an important role in the festival. Recently the use of real
pigs is being replacd with painted ones. These were on display in the
museum of Hakka culture.
Boxes of tea are ready for shipment to Japan at the Formosa Black Tea
Company.

(8 August 103) Ghost Parade and Festival
Friday afternoon, we took the commuter rail up to Keelung, a port city.
The event begins with a parade through the streets of Keelung.
The parade ends at the temple, with gifts being brought in by each
group, followed by prayers, photos and celebrations.

The day ended with a Hakka meal and our return to Taipei.
