Announcements (Updated 6 June 2019)

(6 June 2019) For those travelling to Atlanta with the group, I have two large vans departing the hotel at 4:30pm on Sunday. Please plan to arrive about 4:15 just to be safe.

(29 May 2019) Homework 4 is now posted.

Ultrasound is in the News at Northeastern.

(23 May 2019, 10pm) There's another update to HW3.

(23 May 2019) Slides 4 are posted. HW3 is updated. There is a talk template below the slides. You can do whatever works for your presentation, but it might be helpful to see this.

(22 May 2019) Homework 3 in part is posted above. xray.m and xraydata.m are posted below for the teams that need them.

(18 May 2019) I've made some small updates to the syllabus, just recognizing that we're taking a bit more time on X-rays and MRI than originally planned.

(14 May 2019) Danny has updated HW2 with the new due date and submission guidelines.

(13 May 2019) I've made a couple changes to slides2

(13 May 2019) Homework 2 is now posted at Homework 2.

(6 May 2019) I've updated the agenda at the link above with more recent information and a better format. Please remember we start classes at 8:30 this year. There was some confusion about that earlier. Remember that we move around. Look at the schedule for room numbers. Tomorrow we start in el Reloj R10. The R stands for el Reloj.

(4 May 2019) Margarita has informed me that Monday's activities begin promptly at 9:00, and not 8:30 as it shows on the agenda. However, please plan to arrive a little bit early to allow time for travel issues and getting organized in the classroom.

(3 May 2019) You may have seen an email from WorldAware about thunderstorms in Atlanta tomorrow. I don't think that's an uncommon situation in Atlanta, and at this time I don't anticipate any problems.

(3 May 2019) If you're still thinking about packing, I typically bring enough clothes for 9 days. I take my laundry to the nearby ProntoMatic once a week and having a couple days extra allows for schedule changes and the time it takes to get them done. You will have facilities to do your own laundry at your home, so it should be easier (and cheaper) for you in some ways. We'll see you all tomorrow.

(29 Apr 2019) I've been asked about the possibility of skiing in Chile. I think it's unlikely as the local areas typically open somewhat later in June, but it is possible. I'm going to bring a ski jacket because I can wear it to school on cold days and ski gloves becaues they don't take up much space. If we do get a chance for a ski day it's possible to rent clothing with the equipment. There are 3 ski areas within the Metropolitan Region, and they offer van transportation from the city.

(24 Apr 2019) All our group-ticket flights allow 2 free checked bags not to exceed 50 pounds each. If you have any flight deviations, you might want to check with the airline in case anything is different for you.

(17 Apri 2019) CLTR4944 has been approved for NUPath Attribute IC, Interpreting Culture. Also, I've added the tentative agenda and the updated EECE4649 syllabus above.

(11 April 2019) Predeparture meeting 3 notes are here

(28 March 2019) Reminder: Our second predeparture meeting will be tonight at 6:00pm in 302 Stearns Conference Room. We'll be developing and/or practicing our Matlab skills. Here's an image we will use. Also, download the Matlab output and a toy Matlab function.

(14 March 2019) Predeparture meeting notes are here, and the video of the meeting is here.

(25 Feb 2019) Pre-departure meetings:
* Be sure to attend the 12 March GEO meeting. This is very important as they will not let you participate in the program without this. You should have received an email from GEO.
* For our program only, we have a basic-information and get-acquainted meeting on Wedesday 13 March from 8:00 to 9:00PM in 302 Stearns. This is where we had the info sessions.
* Our second pre-departure meeting will address some technical skills, mostly involving Matlab on Thursday 28 March from 6:00 to 7:00pm in 302 Stearns.
* Our third and final pre-departure meeting will address the last-minute practical issues of meeting at the airport, getting to our Chilean homes, and starting the program at UAndes. That will be on Thursday, 11 April from 6:00 to 7:00pm in 302 Stearns.

(28 Jan 2019) Welcome to the Biomedical Imaging in Chile website. From now through the end of the program, I'll post announcements, assignments, and other useful information here. For starters, I've copied some links from last year's course, which I will update.

Travel Plans: Coming Soon Don't forget your passport. Check in and check your bag, and come to the gate. Danny and I will be there.

We should have time for a snack or dinner at ATL. We'll go to the concourse where our SCL flight departs and find a place to eat.

Our arrival at SCL will probably be chaotic. In Boston I'll give you a 3X5 card. Please write your name on it. When we get out of customs at SCL, you'll probably see your name on a sign held by your host family. When we leave customs, walk to the right toward the "meeting area." Someone from Andes Living will be there to meet you. Danny and I will remain in the meeting area until everyone has a ride. When you have your ride, find one of us and leave your name card. We will not leave the airport until we know you all have rides.

Packing List: Everyone is different so think about what you usually bring with you when you leave home. However, there are some extra things to think about when you travel to another country for several weeks. I've put together a very incomplete packing list to give you something to think about.

Emergencies: Text my US mobile number in case of emergency. I will recharge my Chilean phone which is 956732051 when we have settled into our hotel. I'll email you when I've done it.

I will dry-run an "emergency test" sometime Monday or Tuesday to make sure all our numbers are working. When I do, just reply with your name.

Facts and Figures about UANDES.

ABOUT THE BACKGROUND: My favorite winter passtime is skiing. I put this background together from a detail of a photograph taken at Park City, in 2003. There are four copies in different orientations so that the tracks (and more importantly, the brightness levels) line up as the pattern repeats.
